G4 Tower Mac 350mhz

Hi Everyone.

This is my first time on here.

I have recently bought a Drum Scanner (used to scan photographic negatives to a very high quality)

This machine is pretty old and only runs on a very prehistoric G4 350mhz running os 9.2.2. That OS is so bad, we are so lucky how they developed OSX.

The display that it came with has developed red lines running down the display, it is a Formac. I tried using my 23' Apple Display, it fits the port OK as the connection is identical to the Formac. When you start up the G4 the screen flashes up then dissapears, it stays black with the power buton on.

I have managed to find all the information on the system that tells me about the card in the machine, I think.

AGP

ATI, Rage 128Ps

ATI, Rage 128 Pro

Card 113-63001-108

VRAM 16MB

Can anyone tell me why this display doesn't stay on and if there are any other graphics cards I might be able to buy to make it work.

Or what type of specifications I should be looking for when looking for a new monitor that will work with this configuration.

If you need any further info I will try to supply.

Many thanks

Rob

The Rage 128 doesn't support the 20" or 23 " Apple displays.

Is the Apple display that you have a DVI equipped model?

Likely so, but it is an important point.

For your machine and that display, a Radeon 9000 Pro would work well to run the display, though the ADC port of the 9000 won't work. The AGP Graphics (Sawtooth) models don't support the ADC port.

Two other possible choices are a Radeon 9700 Pro or a Radeon 9800 Pro. Either has a DVI port and either can be used in an AGP graphics machine.

Additional power is required, which is provided by connecting to an unused drive power connector.

Any of the three cards may be found on eBay.

Any card considered MUST be specifically stated to be a Mac compatible card or it will not work.

If you don't wish to replace the graphics card, get a VGA or DVI monitor of 16:10 or 4:3 ratio, 19" or less in size.
