Aug 19, 2012 2:45 PM in response to mende1by Sean L.,No joy.
I downloaded the linked driver. After successfully installing it I get into the same Software Update loop when I try to actually add the printer.

I was having trouble printing to my HP Color LaserJet 2605dn from a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion, so I went to System Prefernces -> Print & Scan deleted it and atempted to re-add it. When I try add the printer I get this message:
Software for this printer is available from Apple. Would you like to download and install it?
After clicking Download & Install (the only option other than Cancel), I get this:
Can't install the software for the Hewlett-Packard HP Color LaserJet 2605dn because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.
What's the workaround when Mountain Lion can't find the driver?
Thanks!
The 2605dn has dual Network and USB connectivity. Which are you attempting to configure: Network or attached USB?
- Printer on, and if networked, use a static IP address
- Print & Scan
- IP
- Provide printer static IP address
- Select Printer Software ... HP Color LaserJet 2605dn driver (not sure about that 2600 driver)
- Add
- Configure Driver under Options and Supplies
I have a 1994 HP Laserjet 4m Plus set up using these steps and the appropriate driver. I just added another network printer, using the same IP address, but using the above 2605dn driver without any issue other than complaint about a redundant IP address.
Hopefully, you have already sorted this out.

Aug 19, 2012 4:54 PM in response to VikingOSXby Sean L.,The printer is connected via USB to a TimeMachine. I'll have to pick up an Ethernet cable and give it a go.

Aug 20, 2012 7:02 AM in response to Sean L.by John Blanchard1,To avoid the Software Update loop, delete /Library/Printers/hp and then reinstall the update once.

Aug 21, 2012 3:40 PM in response to John Blanchard1by Sean L.,Thanks, that almost works... I've tried deleting the hp folder, as described as well as deleting both that folder and the Installed Printers plist file.
It goes through "Finding", "Downloading", and "Installing", then after installation is complete the progress bar goes back to zero and "Finding" begins again, this time ending in the usual:
Can't install the software for the Hewlett-Packard HP Color LaserJet 2605dn because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.

Oct 4, 2012 9:27 AM in response to Sean L.by Robert Sandhaus,I'm running around in this same circle with no solution. I've been ininstalling reinstalling the Apple HP drivers (2.11) but installing an HP printer always tries to find the driver in Software Update and can't find it. Don't know what to do. All my HP printers are currently set up as generic.

Oct 27, 2012 12:02 PM in response to Robert Sandhausby twilliams4th,This had been plaguing me for a while, and I just finally found the solution. You need to go to System Preferences, then Print & Scan. From there, you'll need to right click in a white area under your listed printers and select "reset printing system...". It will remove all devices, but they will quickly recognized and able to be reinstalled after everything is deleted. I believe my computer required a restart after I reset the system, as they appeared to still be present. I powered off my router, etc. then restarted my computer. After getting everything powered back on, I was in business. Finally, everything is working perfectly!

Nov 7, 2012 11:12 PM in response to twilliams4thby r00tabega,This totally worked for my Brother printer. I couldn't install drivers for the life of me, even tried renaming the /Library/Printers/Brother folder but resetting the system did the trick. Thanks twilliams4th!
