My Time Capsule can not be found

    From what?

     

    Everything.. only certain clients?

     

    Was it new install and never worked? Or was working fine and now stopped?

     

    Did you reboot it?

     

    Did you reset it?

     

    Have you connected by ethernet to it?

    I have done everything..on the above..Yes it was working until I have changed the password for the WiFi

    By the way LaPastenague..How to you properly reset it..Just press the button on the back and for How Long?

    Press reset for one second.. the password will revert to default.

     

    Or press reset for 10sec for full reset.. Use ethernet to do full setup again.

     

    Forget trying to get things going over wireless..

    I had the same problem after initially setting up my Time Capsule to join my existing network.  I've now attached an Ethernet cable to the port with the cirlce of dots icon on the TC and to my router, powered off the TC, reset it for over 1 second, and AirPort Utility still can't locate it.  Does it make sense that it is looking for it using AirPort when it's connected via an Ethernet cable? Should I turn AirPort off?

    If you wireless joined the network.. you cannot access the TC except through the main router.. plugging into any ethernet port is useless as they are off.

     

    I am not sure what powered off the TC.. reset it for 1sec means. That will not do anything..

     

    The TC has to be powered and fully boot.. then press the reset..

     

    Or to do a full factory reset.. press and hold the reset during power on.. keep holding until the front led flashes rapidly.

    Thank you - the full reset did allow AirPort utility to find the TC again for set up.  I was given the option to reset to the previous settings (Join Wireless Netwok), which I chose.  After completing the set up, I got this message: "AirPort Utility was unable to find your AirPort wireless device after restarting.  Select Network from WIFI menu and try again."  I did this (actually my home network was already checked so there was nothing to select) and was back to square one (no TC still).

     

    It seems that joining my home Wireless Network is somehow the culprit.  I saw your earlier advice in this thread where you said forget trying to get things over wireless, so, I have now chosen the option in TC set up to disable TC's WiFi and am just using an ethernet cable.  This seems to work although I constantly get a pop up message "Server Connection Interrupted" (it seems to show up right after a time machine back up has run) and I'm given the option to disconnect or ignore.  Ignoring doesn't do anything; is disconnecting OK and will it get rid of future pop up messages?

    LOL!! you have done from bug1 to bug2. Server Connection Interrupted has been ongoing bane of existence since Lion came out. This is entirely different issue.

     

    Hit the disconnect.. you can always reconnect later but I doubt it will help.

     

    If you have an older TC.. Gen 1-3 or even early gen4 revert to 7.5.2 firmware and the issue will stop.

     

    If you are stuck on 7.6 I am not sure there is a solution.

    Have you setup a static ip on the ethernet in the computer? If so make sure there is no router or gateway address connected with it.

    Do it backwards.. from last post as early info (even my comments) are wrong or misguided as the thread has run a long time and we were trying to discover work arounds.

     

    I discovered it doesn't happen on Snow L if I use 7.5.2 firmware on the TC.. but after a day or two, any TC i upgraded to 7.6.x firmware I had the issue.. so it has to do with changes Apple made at Lion and 7.6 firmware.. which still do not IMHO work half as well as SL did. Lion and ML have the networking ability of wet string.

    OK - thx for all your help - I did hit the disconnect - haven't had a new pop up yet (but it's only been 60 min).  I guess I should join that other long thread instead - I do have Leopard and am not aware that I did anything to set up a static ip. Trying to figure out what version I have of TC, when I click on the Get Info button about my TC, it tells me nothing - just that it's "kind" is "Sharepoint" everything else is greyed out(?)  FWIW, I bought it in Feb 2011  - was in no rush to set it up ;-)

     

    Anyhow, from the other thread I do see comments that the pop up may be harmless; but then there's your comment that it would be a disk breaker if the TC is constantly spinning up and spinning down.  I do think I'm hearing a very quick 5 second spin up and 5 sec spin down faint whining sound every 5 minutes or so - can't really feel anything  on the TC box and the green light appears constant.  Of course I haven't had the pop up during this brief observation period.  I believe the back ups occur hourly - presume hourly activity is not a concern.  

     

    Anyhow, thx again for the help - I really don't use the that Apple much and so am wondering if it's really worth hassling with the TC.  But if I do, looks like the next step would be to figure out what version of firmware I have - started trying to figure that out and the articles I found just helped me figure out that I had a Boot ROM Version of IM 112.0057.B00 - but I don't know what that means relative to the Firmware numbers you gave.  If I don't already have 7.5.2 and change to it, it sounds like I'm still stuck if I allow newer updates that will reproduce the problem??
