Alert messages from Notification Center hang after using close button

However people might want to know which option in the Notification Centre you are using.

I'm having this problem as well. All my notifications are set to bring up an alert box. Sometimes they pop up and can be closed in the normal fashion, but right now I am looking at two iCal alerts that only show the "Spinning Beachball of Death" when I move a cursor over them.

The Notification sliding window will also feeze in postion at times, but this can be rectified by moving to a different desktop and back. The Notification alerts however, remain stuck.

As I said, same problem as Chris - calendar alerts.

As you can see the System Preferences > Notification Pane talks about "Alerts" in a general way first

Then it offers options on how the Notifications are displayed.

I was presuming you were talking about the Notifications in the same general way and I was asking which option you were using

Since my first post in this thread I have changes my Mail Notifications to Alerts (It seems to be the one with more issue)

It does hang around until I deal with it

It then send me to Mail but the Incoming mail item(s) is(are) no longer marked as unread.

This makes it a little difficult to check the generic Inbox rthat has five Accounts set up.

I am not getting a spinning beach Ball and the Alert Style Notification goes away.

I am having this exact same issue. The only way I can get it off the screen is by restarting my computer. It works for awhile after that then again, it starts hanging with the spinning beach ball.

If I quit the notification center process, then the alert goes away and notification center starts again. It then displays the remaining notifications.

I'm having the same issue as well.

After the upgrade to 10.8.2. and killing all non-Apple extensions (including those hanging in the MenuBar), the problem was gone.

I don't know why, but a couple of days ago it just came back; including the spiining beach ball. 😕

It seems to be a Next Day issue.

The problem always starts in the morning.

And since I do not encounter problems with the Banner alerts it seems to be related to the buttons on the Alerts.

It also seems to be happing when there are more than 1 Alert messages with buttons (Close - Open).

Also it is not just with E-mail Alert Messages it also happens with Calender Alerts.

I am having very similar problems and they show up in a very similar way.

Swedish OSX 10.8.2 - Very annoying.

I also have this exact same issue on a Macbook Air, usually occurring after putting my mac to sleep by closing the laptop with no alerts open at the time. So, the alert appears when the mac is sleeing (I think plugged in and with Power nap running).

In addition to seeing this the day after the alert, I can also get the error the same day, hours after the event.

I see it's been nearly a year since the last post on this topic. Even with the update to 10.8.5 it still happens after my MacBook Pro Retina 16GB Ram (early 2013 build) is left on for a long period of time - like overnight.

Rebooting and/or stopping and restarting the process is the only (brute forceed) resolution I can find as well.

• Apple support suggested turning off the firewall and de-encrypting, which I did.
• My anecdotal and unscientific observation: Helped somewhat by lengthening the time to 'beachball'. 😐

I was also advised to completely wipe and reinstall OS - oh my...😢

Does anyone have anything new to add before I take this draconian measure? 😕
