Q: Notes Disappearing!!

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have had a recurring problem with Notes disappearing.  I use Notes on both my iPhone and my Mac (Google Apps, not iCould) for work.  Many of my (new) notes disappear from both devices within a couple days of me writing them.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

Same issue here. I thought I had imagined it the first time it happened about a month ago but my notes that I saved yesterday (and left open long enough to sync) has vanished. Hope they can fix this soon.

I was able to fix this on my phone. with your phone plugged in, go to the itunes summary page. Click on the info tab, then scroll down to "other". Uncheck "sync notes with....". this will solve the issue of the notes disappearing. It'll also delete ALL of you notes so you'll have to start from scratch. I recommend you take a snapshot first of notes you want, so it's easy to recreate them. Hope this helps. :-)

I have an ipad 2 whose notes started disappearing a couple of months ago. It is not a sync issue because I am not syncing with iCloud nor do I ever plug this into a computer. It's an app issue.  And, just now I opened my notes app and saw 5 notes there and then right before my very eyes (while I was not touching anything on the ipad) two of them just vanished.   I'm seriously disappointed in apple for not addressing this and sadly will not be using this app again.  Best of luck to you all in resolving it - my recommendation is to copy your stuff now before its too late.

This is absolutely insane.  I read this forum and see that people have been having this problem for 6+ months and there is not one response from apple.  What good is their stupid support page if they don't monitor it and help us out?

I called up notes this morning and saw 4 notes...and then watched in horror as 3 of the notes just disappeared into thin air!  This is intolerable.  I use my computer for important notes....and have for a long time.  But now they keep disappearing.  You pay $1500 for a computer, you expect it to be able to keep your notes.  After countless macs and 20 years of loyalty, I have treated Apple well----I wish they would learn to treat their customers with some respect in return.  This issue deserves a response from them...as well as a fix.

Indeed. Seems like the most simple of things as well. Perhaps they don't wish to highlight the embarrasment by fixing it!

Happened to me as well now, for the first time. None of the solutions in this thread appears to work for me.

    Definitely not acceptable...

Well it has been almost 2 months with no notes diappearing... Here is what I have setup:

    1. My phone has my notes on for my iCloud account. No other account has Notes on).

    2. On my MBP, Mail has 2 sub-folders under Notes (which is under reminders). On is "On my Mac" and the other is "iCloud". The On my Mac I store permanent notes which I don't need on my iPhone. The other is all my notes that I use, change, between both my computer and my iPhone.

    3. On the info page, I made sure under Other I did not have synch notes box checked. I don't have anything synched with my MBP, it's all over the iCloud.

    3. I backup to Time Machine weekly just in case I do lose the notes, easy to go back and retrieve.

I had some other folders under notes (I think for each 3rd party email) and I got rid of all that and just use iCloud. And I can't remember if the box to synch notes was previously checked. However, I have had no problems (knock on wood) for almost 2 months.

This just happened to me today. Yesterday I started passing a lot of random notes I have floating around my hard drive to the Notes app... And lo and behold today they have completely disappeared. I am syncing up with Google but upon checking my folders, as some suggested, the notes are not there. Extremely frustrating.

Notes is a fairly simple app but very useful. How come Apple has not answered something like this after so many complaints?

Well, we had the same thing happening to our email which was synched with Google. Solution to that was to turn off POP access at the Google site.

For some reason, emails that were in the inbox were just disappearing. Of course, google doesn't really treat those folders (inbox, etc...) as folders.... they are "labels". Unsure how it treats notes.

I'm having the same problem, and it is not a syncing issue or anything else complicated.  I have an iPhone 4S and I'm the most simplistic of users.  I don't use Google apps or the Cloud or an iMac, and I don't explicitly sync with anything, I just use the phone as a phone and to read my email and go on the web.  I'm the control group.  And I still keep losing my notes!  Like other people here, at first I thought it was something I did.  Now I'm sure it's not.  It seems the oldest notes stay but all the newer ones disappear.  Infuriating.  NO FIX FOR THIS, APPLE??  Even with all these complaints?

I will file a bug report as carlosmaltzahn suggested.

Ditto. I sync with iTunes, not using iCloud or Google. Must be the app. Extremely inconveniencing. The lost note contained my grocery shopping list. Thank goodness it wasn't anything more essential.

Odd thing is that this is the first time it's happened, and I've used Notes a lot since I got my iPhone 4S in 2011.

I did download a couple of ereader apps, and have also been using my iPhone to test ebook drafts on iBook. I wonder whether this is some of the issue.

Same thing happening to me.  After never having an issue or changing any settings on iphone/ipad the last note I made disappeared one day after I created it.

I too have had this problem, notes vanishing on my iPhone 4. My observations are:

    1. This is not a Mountain Lion problem. I have Snow Leopard on my MBP.

    2. This is not an iCloud problem. I don't use iCloud.

    3. This is not a Google problem. I do have a Google account but it is in no way linked to my phone. I have a Yahoo mail account linked to my phone.

    4. I never had a problem with vanishing notes until upgrading to iOS 6 and its updates.

Hence, like others have said I believe this is a STUPID APP problem ..This is not like Apple to have such an inferior product! Stupid problems like this was the biggest reason I made the big switch from "Windoze"/Android to Apple a few years ago.

Fortunately my notes have never vanished from my Yahoo mail (syncs automatically).. The work around I have found is to email the missing notes to myself (from the MacBook since the "notes" folder isn't visible on phone email) and then copy/paste back into notes. But this is getting a little OLD, this is about the 5th or 6th time I've had to do this in the past couple of months. I've got better things to do with my time!

This is the last straw, I am putting my foot down and switching to a different note taking app, or as the OP said resort to old-school method of carrying a pen and real notepad around in my pocket. It wasn't that hard in the past, and I've never lost a real notepad out of my pocket.

BOOO to you Apple! Wake up and fix notes please!!!

Once again happened last night. Went to show someone a a note that I had on my iPhone. Pulled up th elist of 12-15 notes that I have, scrolled down to the one I needed, clicked on it and then viola! ALL THE NOTES DISAPPEARED! Log into iCloud (Notes is on for iCloud account) and nothing there. Pull up Mail (where I just saw them 3 days ago) and nothing there! Very VERY irritating!!! So back to Time Machine I go to pull them back out AGAIN!
