Q: Notes Disappearing!!

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion I have had a recurring problem with Notes disappearing.  I use Notes on both my iPhone and my Mac (Google Apps, not iCould) for work.  Many of my (new) notes disappear from both devices within a couple days of me writing them.

I am quite bored with this. it keeps happening to me (ipad or iphone) for a number of months now. Most often, they are backed up on my e-mail account. But this is not a solution because i) the backup is only accessible from my computer (not from my Ipad or Iphone, one wonders why), ii) it's a whole procedure to copy the note again that will disappear again anyway. I request apple to solve this asap. No wonder people are switching to competitors.

I noticed on my notes application that is says "Updating" at the top, right before my notes disappear.  What is updating on the notes application?

Thx very much for the info. I found my noted in yahoo mail in the Folders section. You def saved me from a lot of trouble having to remember the info I needed for work. I can breath now!

    Thx, thx, & thx again.

I am writing my notes in Day One app from now on. Notes is very unreliable .

Apple really needs to fix whatever is causing this problem ASAP.

Go onto webmail for whatever mail you assigned to your iThing (for me it is Yahoo). Under the Folders section is one called Notes - all there, even though I hadn't got my sync/iCloud thing going properly!!!! Unbelievable. So relieved. Would help if Apple communicated that - I posted a query on Facebook and a friends had the same issue and it's the same solution.

Thanks so much for the info; my notes disappeared just when I needed them most. I was afraid that I had somehow deleted them by mistake, but after searching support to see if there was a way to retrieve them, I found that this is an on-going issue. I found my lost notes right where you said they'd be, in my email account's folder. It was as simple as copying/pasting them back into notes on my iPad.

    Thanks again....

Well, on top of everything, I just spent a half hour trying to get into the forums because my login info kept being asked for over and over again, or kept getting error messages, even though I've been using the same login forever. I'm using a completely different login now, because I'm just fed up.

Anyway, my actual bit of news is that months after one of my notes vanished into the ether, it has reappeared on my iPhone out of the blue, completely intact. Go figga.

Seriously sad that Apple can't make basic text-editing software that doesn't eat your notes. Brilliant.

I wasn't using iCloud at all... I threw down about an hour worth of ideas on "Notes", two days later I check back in and my note was completely gone.

There's no answer here or anywhere it seems.

Apple: it'd be worth the time and money to properly code and test your features as to not breed this kind of contempt for your company.

You can add me to the list of Apple users that have had a very important note disappear.

I have about 16 notes saved, but the most important one deleted right when I had just finished editing.  I could not find it!!

I Googled the issue and it brought me to this forum.  As I read the posts users recomended to check a file on my syncing eMail account. After reading this I was so relieved and thought that everything was going to be ok.  To my bad luck nothing was saved to the Notes file on my eMails not even to iCloud, which doesnt make sence because the last time I logged into my iCloud account my notes were there; what happened?  Is there any way to retrieve notes?  Would it be useful to go to the Apple store for help?

I don't think I can trust this app anymore!!!

    Apple please fix this!!!

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

I just started having this same problem.  Don't use Notes much, but today for the second time in a week the notes disappeared when I launched the app on my ipad mini.  Using Lion and iOS 6.1.2, so it's not a Mountain Lion issue for me.

    I haven't been using iCloud.

Went into Settings --> iCloud and turned on Notes.  Had to go back into Notes and select a Default account (set it to my yahoo email, as it preselected iCloud but again I'm not using iCloud).  Lo and behold now I have a Notes file in my Yahoo email, and it contains the notes I lost today along with the note I had lost last week.  This new Yahoo Notes file is not appearing on the device (ipad mini) which lost them in the first place, but I do see it on my iPhone and MacBook.

But wanting it on the ipad, I just emailed the note from my Yahoo acct to myself, and then was able to copy the info from Mail/Yahoo on my ipad into Notes.

I also went ahead and downloaded a different notes app just in case Notes screws up again, cuz I must say I have lost some faith in that particular app at this point.

I have found my notes!  All of them!    Just recently I noticed a new folder called Notes in my yahoo mail account, which is the account synched with my iPad where my notes disappeared from.  I thought I'd checked it before but didn't see it when I lost the notes last year.  Every single note is there!  Hope this helps...

I have a yahoo account linked to my phone and an iCloud account linked to my phone and still can't get the notes to save.
