how do I download apple software update for windows 7?
I somehow lost the Apple Software Update program on my Windows 7 laptop. Is it needed? if so, where do I find it to download it?
iPhone 3GS (8GB), Windows 7

Your problem, hardware or software, may not be exactly the same as that of the original poster of this older thread, and it can be very confusing for everybody if we try to answer more than one question in each thread, which can also result in you applying the wrong advice to your particular problem.
In order for us to give your problem our proper attention to try to solve it, would you kindly start your own thread, describing the trouble you are having in the fullest detail, including completing your details to show what Mac or iDevice you are using, what operating system, and what version of the application in question. Please remember to post in the forum relevant to your hardware or version of OS X. A full list of all the support forums is here:
Im on windows 7. I get this error when i try to install any apple software like itunes: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." When i go check the apple support community it sais: you have to check "apple software update" on your computer and repair it. But i cant find "apple software update" anywhere on my computer. Cant find it under "all programs" and can't find in under "Add or Remove programs" control panel. To get "apple software uptade" apple sais you have to download apple software to get it (like itunes or icloud) but i cant download any of them because i get the same error: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package..." Is there any way to fix this? thank you.
It's possible to keep up to date by downloading installers for new versions of software from the Apple downloads site:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/
... if your ASU has just been uninstalled, an update using one of those installer bundles would most probably also reinstall ASU.
If your ASU is damaged in some way, however, that can lead to some troubles using the installers downloaded from the downloads site. For example, see the following user tip:
... so it might be worth investigating a repair install of ASU (as per the instructions in that user tip), if you've got iTunes installed and want to keep that up to date.
I have been unable to install itunes on my PC. I am running windows 7 home priemium 64. I have tried everything I have found on this site, (and anything I found on Google).
I do not have the Apple Software Update program on my computer, so I can't do a repair. Any suggestions?
Go to add/remove programs, find iTunes and repair it. Once that completes, find Apple Software Update and repair it. Finally try your iTunes install again.
I am experiencing this same issue and have attempted all of the various fixes noted with no success. I even get this notice when attempting to uninstall iTunes or ASU.
yes try all month long
put on computer to fix my phone for backup
You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.
1. Install WinRaR on your laptop
2. Right click on Itunes installer setup
3. Choose "open with winrar"
4. Double click on AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
5. Proceed with Apple Software Update setup
