What the f.. happended to the finder program. This is the most fundamental app in the OS and yet after 20 some odd years of always working consistently, I'm now with the installatiion of Lion, having to constantly relaunch the program to get a window. Unbelievable. Is this some odd thing with my mac alone? ***?

Try deleting the com.apple.finder.plist from ~/Library/Preferences. Logout/Login

Thanks, but I tried that already. I also reinstalled the entire OS just too make sure, but it's actually worse than ever. I'm slowly losing control over my machine as Apple dumbs down the interface for the iphone crowd. Any crazy ideas?
If you want help tell us everything you have done to diagnose or rectify the problem. I know you're frustrated but the editorial comments aren't necessary and discourage people for helping you.
Okay, sorry for the opinions. Aside from what I"ve mentioned - a reinstall of the OS and deletion of the preference list, I've no clue what else to do.
