Can I control backup frequency on TC

I have a 2TB time capsule. I want to know if i can control how often it backs up my computer. Seems like it backs up every hour and when it backs up it slows my entire network down. Any help is appreciated.

It should and will if your Mac is not sleeping.

That is the issue that needs troubleshooting. Unless you have a lot of new data to backup every hour, backups should only take a few minutes at most.

And....if you have good strong, fast wireless connection...you should not notice any slow down on your network during backups.

What can you tell us about where the Mac and Time Capsule are located in relation to each other? Do you have line-of-sight between your Mac and the Time Capsule? If not, how many walls or ceilings are there in the signal path between the Mac and the Time Capsule?

The TC is in another room seperated by just one wall. I have a very strong signal, but it still slows teh network. when the TC backs up, it backs up my entire HD. I don't understand why but it takes about 30 min for it to complete a back up so therefore it is almost constantly backing up and slowing down the network. I have turned it off so that I can tell it when I want the back up to run.

There is no way that a "normal" backup should run for 30 minutes....unless you are constantly adding new photos, songs, movies, or other heavy data material.

You might want to download and install BackupLoupe, an application that will show you a complete record of exactly what is backed up on each pass.

Some applications like Entourage, Aperture, VM Fusion, Parallels and others try to back up their complete database on each pass. In addition to taking up a lot of time, this can fill up a Time Capsule very quickly.

Once you identify the culprit, you can exclude that file or database from backups and back it up manually each day. The goal here is to have your hourly backups take just a minute or two...and not slow down your network.
