Aspect ratio for external display on Macbook Pro 13

Hello

I'm just struggling to understand and figure out what external monitor to get for my Macbook Pro 13. If the aspect ratio the screen on the MB is 16:10 then will a winde angle monitor of 16:9 display correctly or will there be little black patches around the edges? Or will the MB figure this out and adjust accordingly?

If anyone has any specific suggestion for me I'd be very grateful. I'd like something around 23-24 inch and it will be used for video editing. I also want to vera wall mount it.
