Why doesn't Garage Band use wav files?
I would like to use Garage Band to edit wav files I have, but it won't recognize them - only seems to work with songs I imported from cassette tapes. Why?
iMAC, Mac OS X (10.5.7)

.wav is a proprietry MicroSoft format. There could be licencing issues involved.
You should be able to convert them to a useable format with Audacity (or indeed just do the editing in Audacity).
It's free and I use it a lot. (in fact I'm recording the Goons with it right now).
Thanks for the suggestion. I do have the option to use Total Recorder in Windows which I also have on my Mac. That is also free and I used it a lot when I had PC. So guess that is the route I will take. Just thought I would see if I could do it in Garage Band as the sound view is bigger than in TR, and also I wouldn't have to switch over to Windows. By the way, does Audacity take up a lot of space on the hard drive? I don't want to clog it up with too much stuff.
Audacity folder in my Applications is 61.2 MB.
(GarageBand is 334.8 MB)
Thanks muchly. I'll definitely look into it.
