Q: Aperture 3 Missing Master Files

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone could help me on this one..

I seem to have lost concetivity to my master files in Aperture 3.

I think this has been since renaming earlyer today, I am now trying to export the images for use on my website and I get this message...

I guess I need to reconcect to the masters, but I have no idea how to do this, and everytime I try I seem to be lossing more files...?

Please help as this is a wedding shoot im working on

"OSStatus Error-43" is a file or folder not found error - so your images were already missing, when you tried to rename them.

Have you run DiskDrill on the external drive, where the library resides, or on your System drive, to restore files on the Desktop? Have you already erased the card in the camera, or tried Disk Drill on the card?

Hi Chris. Where do you think the Originals (the files you imported) are?

You use "File➞Locate Referenced Files" to attach Images to their missing Originals.

Hi I think I am running that procedure as we speak..
It seems to be putting 1 image in 1 folder on my desktop,
I don't know where the orghinal is tho, I always import directly from my camera to a new project in Aperture..?

Right-click one of the Images with the "Missing Original" badge (the arrow with the superimposed yellow warning sign), and select "Show in Finder". What path is listed in the pop up? Why would your Originals be there? Can you bring them on-line?

It says the path to the orginal can not be found...
May have been moved or deleated?

I'm used to seeing something like this when I select "Show in Finder" from the context-sensitive menu of Images that have missing Originals:

What exactly does your alert say?

Still no luck sadly..

I've noticed that its the first 55 images that have the wrong file name, a mistake in naming on my first renaming attempt..

This is what I get if I try to reconnect to the orignials..

But do you know, wehre the original images are? Then rename the 55 image(s) in question using the Finder to exactly the names that Aperture is expecting - or just for the images that are important to you, since it is so much work. I had to do that myself once, after messing up my referenced masters

So you don't have a folder on your Desktop named amy-wayne-4-8-12 -bw? Did you at one time then move it somewhere else?

Ah this is making sense now..

My process is to import into aperture directly from my camera...
Without folders on my desktop etc, but when I renamed the files, this was when the warning first came up.

I then used the "relocate orignials" option which put them on the desktop with some old custom text..
Now I have sinced deleated that folder thinking the masters were safe in Aperture...
So this would explain why I cant locate the masters now...

So I guess the question is, have they gone? or can I now recover them..?

Yikes. If you relocated them to the Desktop and then deleted those folders...

Do you have a Time Machine backup?
