but when I renamed the files, this was when the warning first came up.

How did you rename "the files"?  And by "the files" do you mean your Originals, which at that point should have been inside your Aperture Library?

Yeah good point.. I used the "Batch Change" under "Meta Data" to rename the originals..

Thats why I thought I was safe within Aperture...

You should have been -- that's why I asked.  Still not clear to me what went wrong.  You used "Batch Change" and you ticked the "Apply to original files" box?  And then at what point did you get a warning, and what did the warning say?

What did you rename the files to?

Why did you then "Relocate Original"?

The orginal error message was "OSStatus Error-43"

I thought for some reason the files lost conection to the orginals.. I miss understod what "relocate" was going to do...

I have now run disk drill over night, but I still cant find the orignal RAWs, I am missing the first 50 from 450 images.. Very anoying

I cant use Time Machine as I discovered today that the libuary is on an external which was excluded in time machine preferanceces...

    Any ideas guys??

"OSStatus Error-43" is a file or folder not found error - so your images were already missing, when you tried to rename them.

Have you run DiskDrill on the external drive, where the library resides, or on your System drive, to restore files on the Desktop? Have you already erased the card in the camera, or tried Disk Drill on the card?

Yeah good point, they might have been missing first and ive thought it was my error..

The disk drill I ran lastnight was on the desktop as I was trying to recover what was in the trash, but I have now started another one on the external drive where the orginal libuary is..

I did try disk drill on the camera cards (x3) but sadly I have shot sveral jobs since so this was no good.

Thank you for all your help guys, very much apriceated

It looks like I have managed to recover my missing RAW files via Disk Drill..

I scanned the LaCie External drive for the CR2 files deleated within the last 7 days and hey bingo..!

Still not too sure how this happened within Aperture in the first place, but hey, the job is recovered after all..

Thank you to everyone here that has helped and made suggestions, it's been very much appreciated
