Q: Software update problem

I've just bought a 2nd hand macbook 13" and iPhoto/GarageBand does not work, I get message (this update requires OSX ver 10.7) so I'm now trying to update to Lion but I get a message that I need version 10.7, but I've searched with no success, they also say I should use software update.. software update tells me: "Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer.

The former owner formatted the computer with OSX10.6 and I used time machine which was backed up using ver 10.5.6

Any solutions would be much appreciated

What version of iPhoto is it you're trying to run?

I would not trust the software installation on a used computer, from what you say its unstable.

I strongly suggest you backup any user files and clean install the Mac with the supplied install disc set.
All your applications will be reinstalled and the Mac will run better for a fresh install.
