Q: i have an old apple tv-first generation. Can I use it to stream from my computer to my TV? I have it plugged into tv and wifi. Thanks!

I have a really old apple tv. I can get it to boot up on my television, but i can't even get my white remote to control it. (It does control it for setup and diagnostics, just not for movies or control once the appletv menu appears.

How can i stream itunes movie to this apple tv? The apple tv is on my wifi, as is my computer, it is plugged into my tv. The only thing that's missing is getting the apple tv and the computer to talk to each other.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I think you need to go into Settings > Computers, then connect it to your iTunes library.

It will display a PIN on the screen.  You need to Have iTunes running on your computer and it should show p under Devices.  Click it and you will promoted o enter the PIN.  Once that's done the two should connect and begin Syncing data (just like when you connect an iPod to iTunes).

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks, Will.

Why I can get to this menu onmu computer, I can't find how to reach it from the apple Tv. Even when I restart it Asksr only the 3 basic choices:language, fix, or restart.

Is there a way to download all le TV software or workaround what is no longer supported by Apple genius bar but works great?

It may be that there is already an iTunes library paired with it.  AppleTV gen 1 can only synchronise with one iTunes library, although others can be connected to it for streaming.

If there's already a library connected to it you'll need to remove it from the list first (which will cause all content on the AppleTV to be removed).

Of course you'll also need to be pnnected to your network, either via wired or wireless connection.

The options under the Settings menu should be (in this order): General, Screen Saver, Audio & Video, AirTunes, Computers, Downloads and Standby.

To get the remote to work after it boots try and hold down menu and fastforward for about 10 seconds. If the apple tv is paired with another remote that will turn it off.
