sorry sunday
thanks it did help but i still can realise why on a brand new macbook pro the battery only gets to 98%
once your battery gets fully charged 100% - the charging stops to prevent your battery from overcharging. since your battery is not charging - your battery will drop down. once it gets down to 95% - charging resumes until it gets back to 100%.
in other words - that is normal
Yes. This is correct.

Sit and watch it constantly, this will take some hours, it will charge to 100% from time to time, usually just a little less (like 98, or 96) in order to protect the battery from overcharging.
Even on my old Powerbook, it usually sat at 99%, the same as my MBPro. Whenever it hits 100%, I go buy a lottery ticket. Sometimes it gets stuck lower, so I let it discharge for a while, then plug it back in.

I guess it goes to show, Apple does not make Macbook Pros like they use too!
My Macbook Pro is 4 years old. Just last week my battery dropped to 99% 24 hours after calibrating whereas it use to stay at 100% for at least a week.
On battery I now get at least 4 - 3 1/2 hours before it downgrades down to 13%. A month ago, I was still getting 5 - 4 1/2 hours of battery usage.
I was wondering about this regarding my MacBook Pro 15" from mid-2009. Earlier today came across this article: "Apple Portables: Battery may not show a full charge in Mac OS X" at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1909
why is my battery percentage only going till 98%
