Replacement Apps for iWeb

Ok, I have read through here and have seen a lot of programs that can replace iWeb. I just got my site ( www.LarrysPhotos.net ) moved over to my hosting on GoDaddy, that went surprisingly smooth.

I really don't twant to rebuild the entire site if I switch to something other than iWeb. But this isn't going to work forever so I need to do something. Can I take my existing site and move all the pages to one of the other apps and edit them? It is a rather simple site but there are a ton of photos and it would be a nightmare to re-build it.

This is not something I make money from, it's just an online photo album for friends and family. Not something I want to spend endless hours to move over to another web building app.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

This wonderful piece from Old Toad may help you. Two good replacements for iWeb would be RapidWeaver or SandVox.

Info About iWeb Curtesy of Old Toad

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD. On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:

Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:

◼ Password protection

◼ Blog and photo comments

◼ Blog search

◼ Hit counter

◼ MobileMe Gallery

Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken. All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options. There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.

@TV-35

iWeb is becoming less functional as time goes by and, now that MobileMe has shut down, some of the widgets don't work and the slideshsow is effected...

Its probably going to be OK for quite some time for maintaining your existing site but I wouldn't advise using it for new ones.

@ teetor

You can still get the iLife disk through Amazon....

... but for less money you can get software that's actually being developed and has a lot more facilities than iWeb or its higher priced competitors...

If I exported my iWeb site an HTML to a directory on my Mac could I edit / add to it uising Rapidweaver?

No: like iWeb, RapidWeaver keeps its data in its own special format file, only creating the html on publishing, and cannot open html pages.

In theory you can open iWeb pages in an html editor such as Komposer; in practice, the coding is such a complicated mess, and also depends heavily on external css files, that you aren't going to be able to get a viable result.

Your best bet is to start over, using the images and text from the existing site, and formatting them from scratch in RapidWeaver or whatever program you decide to use.

Well, I was able to move the site over to my account at GoDayyy, thay was very easy.

I guess I will stay with iWeb for now. The site would take way too much time to recreate with another program. This is not a site I make any money with, just an online photo album for friends and whoever else wants to look at them.

When iWeb gets too old to work the site will fade away into the sunset. :)

Thanks to everyone that responded....
