import PowerPoint into FCP

Can someone explain how I can import a slide into FCP 7. I shot a lecture and the cient wants to use some of the slide over some of the live footage.

imac 27 , 2.8 Ghz, i7core, 8 GB memory, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iBook PowerPC G3 ver. 10.4.11

Open up the slide file in Powerpoint then export the individual slides as TIFFs.

Import the TIFFs into FCP and place on the timeline as desired.

A few warnings - most PP designers have no idea of the concept of video "safe" images. They will often run text to the edge of the frame (where it will be cut off by overscan) or they use illegal colors that smear (think RED) or they use fonts that are too small or too thin to display correctly.

If you run into these problems you can either live with them or try to re-build the offending slides in Photoshop, Motion, AE or FCP itself to correct the major issues.

Have fun.

I'm not familiar with emicsoft converter, but don't see why he's going to mpeg streamclip as an intermediate step. I've googled emicsoft converter and wonder if it's as good as flip4mac. Sometimes you do get what you pay form.

in FCP, use file: export: quicktime movie (not quicktime conversion) with current settings. That will produce a quicktime identical to what you're working with in fcp.

Then use compressor to convert to a wmv. Flip4mac offers a variety of options which as I said cost according to the quality they'll output. go to finder: system preferences, other: flip4mac to see which you have.

will tell you what your options are.

figuring out the best compression options can be complicated but it's a big part of our world.
