PPTP VPN: TCP connection timing out

I'm connecting to my work's PTPP VPN just fine using Internet Connect. However, whenever a tcp connection is idle for 120 seconds, it timeouts. I can ssh -o ServerAliveInterval=120 <server> which prevents this but when connecting to another service such as a database, I time out. This does not happen when I connect in windows.

Is your network DHCP server set to renew idle IP leases? How is the DNS set up on your network? Have you set DNS in your system preferences?

I'd compare your windows setting with the the MBP.

The windows computer and the mac are on the same network and get their IP addresses from the same source. But for what it's work it's 1 day. Network computers get the DNS from the router which gets it from my ISP's DNS servers.
