100+ Megabytes of .BAH#### "hidden" folders in ~/desktop folder

I have over 100 megabytes of hard disk dedicated to these things. They contain files I thought I deleted months ago (but I have not checked every single one of them). Can I delete these folders, or are they special in some way?

Check each application you run from a second account created in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts to see if any creates those files.

If not, and there is no software that could logically write those files to your desktop, backup you data first, and then try deleting them. Sometimes these files might be locked, in which case you might need to use Secure Empty Trash from the menu which has Empty Trash, or even my software.

explains various means of backing up your data in case some of those files prove to be important for something and you need them back. And here is the link for my Force Empty Trash program:

.BAH### folders are created by BOMArchiveHelper.app:

/System/Library/CoreServices/BOMArchiveHelper.app

BOMArchiveHelper is the background application that creates the archives of the "Create Archive" command in the Finder.

If these folders are dated, and Activity Monitor doesn't show any "BomArchiveHelper" processes, then they should be safe to delete.

Hope this helps....
