how do i install google chrome
i can get to a page on the net that says install google chrome. but when i click it nothing happens and the thing just keeps spinning.

The answer is you don't. While Google Chrome requires OS X 10.5.6 or better, it also requires an Intel processor. Powerbooks use the PowerPC processor, and cannot run Chrome.
bummer, thank you and do you have any suggestions for a faster browser that i could use instead of safari?
Have you tried TenFourFox?
You might try Opera, which has worked well on the PowerPC. Here's the link to the Oct 2010 PowerPC version. (the Intel version is there too which of course you can ignore).
