My Mac Air 10.6.8 leopard won't allow 'pages' to download- need 10.7.4 minimum. I am not Apple savvy. Can someone help advise pls? I can't open .doc attachments in emails.

Use a product such as TextEdit or OpenOffice to open them.

TextEdit is on my mac air and OpenOffice is downloaded and installed but when I try to open a .doc attachment from AOL mail nothing happens- a blank box opens. I know it's got to be me not doing something correctly just don't know what.
