OS X Mountion Lion !!!UPDATE!!!

I installed Lion on my 13'' MacBook Pro, and I experienced Negitive Things (compared to Snow Leopard):

# Slower startup times - Mountion Lion

# More processes mean the OS is using more RAM - Mountion Lion

# Macbook heats up to 60 - 65 degress - Mountian Lion

# Macbook now last to 4 or 4 and a half hours of battery - Mountion Lion

# Some applications occasionally freezing / Probably means program not yet supported by lion - Snow Leopard

# Faster startup times on the Snow Leopard when i did the challege with the Mountian Lion - Snow Leopard

# Less processes mean the OS is using less RAM - Snow Leopard

# Macbook heats up to 50 degrees - Snow Leopard

# Macbook lasted to 6 to 7 hours of battery - Snow Leopard

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion, I would like to possible downgrade?

Hello Mr. Reed,

I've read this thread over and over. And then waited a day to reply.

I'm very confused regarding your comments and I would like to very humbly and politely express my confusion. I feel it is pertinent since it involves an issue that many are struggling with after using the new OS X 10.8 (aka Mountain Lion).

There actually are no confirmed battery problems with 10.8 that I'm aware of. Most likely, all the reported battery problems are either aging batteries or incompatible third-party software.

I guess I got stuck with the use of the word confirm(ed). You replied to Mr. Tomasino's data regarding his battery problem. I don't know Mr. Tomasino personally but I did click on his profile and it appears that he is a technically skilled individual in SW development and computers (Macs). I found his report to also be credible regarding exactly what he was experiencing. In response to his report of his battery issue, you replied:

That is not a confirmed report, as you have not said anything about what software you're running or what troubleshooting steps you have taken. As is true of every other report of battery problems I've seen. "Confirmed" reports would consist of multiple people with similar hardware comparing before-and-after battery life with completely clean systems (ie, no personal data, settings or third-party software).

Why I'm bringing this up is that it has confused me.

I guess, it's better to just get to the point.

Could you please Confirm your data to substantiate your claim that - "There actually are no confirmed battery problems with 10.8 that I'm aware of"?

1) Apple has sold millions of downloads of 10.8. Now if you just take the U.S., for example, that piece of the total pie is a staggering number of people now using 10.8. Therefore, I just can't wrap my head around how you could possibly say that "there are no confirmed battery problems with 10.8". But if indeed this is true, I personally would like to see confirmation of that.

2) You say an interesting thing though at the end of that sentence. "that I'm aware of". Which Sir, implies to me that if you are not fully aware of then how can you claim the first part of your sentence? The sentence seems contradictory.

I'm not trying to stir anything up here or to insult anyone. But I would like to say that you are a very respected, Mac expert. People such as myself, who are new to Macs, count on people like you. Therefore, when I read these things I get very confused and it just makes things harder for me. I also want to note that I'm not a kid, I'm 52 years old. I admit not being very computer literate and have been very open about that. And since I have lived 5 decades, horrible ones but 5 anyway, I don't have much tolerance for pedantic comments or subtle demeaning comments directed to me or other's in general.

I've been on forums for years. News forums, technical forums, social media forums etc.. And I feel that this is the best forum I've ever experienced. But - With knowledge, there comes power. It is the wise man with both, who can balance them to foster an effective environment of communication and learning.

I realize there are politics everywhere, including here. So, I've stepped out to express my confusion with knowing the risk that I may just get kicked off these forums. But, I've been given the sentence. I've got 1-2 years left and I rather express my thoughts instead of stifling them. I've nothing to lose at this point since I've already lost it all.

Thank you and I would like to sincerely note that your blog has been an extremely valuable resource to me. I do appreciate the time and effort that you put into it!

I really don't want to debate this further, as I've said what needs to be said on multiple topics multiple times. And I'm certainly not interested in playing word games analyzing a sentence whose meaning seems, to me, to be perfectly clear. At a certain point, further discussion is pointless, and you have to just let people believe what they choose.

DMerz.

I have lived already two decades more than you. I read your post with a lot of sadness, I would like to express my best wishes for the time you have left and hope that they will be very happy.

You will NOT be expelled from this forum caused by your post to Thomas Reed, who indeed is a professor in solving problems in Apple OS.

Do not hesitate to bring your doubts or comments to this forum, do not hesitate to post your confusion on certain expressions. We are people here not robots. We want to help, and be helped.

Hello Lex,

I thank you so much for the wonderful comment! It has been forever since someone took the time to reach out as you have done and it means everything to me. And for that to happen on the internet is a rarity.

The worst part is the isolation and feeling everything slip away. Lots of regrets and painful memories of what I should have done better and what brought me to this point. My concentration and stamina is getting worse and worse. I have no desire to read, watch a movie, or even listen to music. I use this wonderful MacBook for just surfing the internet. I downloaded a couple drawing/art apps to see if I could distract and get my mind moving but it just doesn't happen. And it only gets worse reading the news and how crazy this world has become.

Visiting this forum has actually helped some. I have a technical background and had a "career". A lousy one but one nevertheless. I don't understand much of the technical issues here but it gets me thinking a bit. What little I did know as an Engineer has long gone away. I'm intrigued by these discussions and wish I really could contribute. At least it gets what's left of the brain cells thinking some.

This is an excellent forum with wonderful people. And I've just met another one - Lex!

I'll be visiting here often and if I can even in the slightest contribute, I will give it my best. It feels like a safe place and safe places are what I need.

Thanks Again Lex!

Are you serious? It's all over the Internet. The moment I put ML on my brand new MacBook Air, I got half the battery life that I had before. See the 88 page discussion here:

I had a look at your web site. Where on earth are you getting all of your misinformation from?

All over the internet? You point to ONE thread on these troubleshooting forums? The battery issue has effected a handful of people since Lion. If you wish to discredit someone here who regularly helps hundreds of other users issues in his free time, then at least try to get your facts right. I see by your points that you have helped so many others too 😉

Comments such as yours are both non productive nor helpful to anyone and are an attempt at trolling and discrediting people who DO know what they are talking about.

So in future if you wish to post such replies, then do try to post relevant and varied links to your 'evidence'.🙂

Cheers

Pete
