Iphone is overheating and losing charge at a rapid rate , is there a fix?

What are you doing when the phone is overheating?
If you have a case, take the case out especially when you are charging the phone.

Certain things that can run the processor at a high level can drain your battery and make your phone hotter such as running 3g and wifi so look at everything you are running including your multitask
Try to reboot the phone. Hold the home button and the sleep/wake button down until the phone turns off ignoring the slide to power off message. Then press the sleep/wake button for a few seconds until you get the apple logo.
If the iPhone is really overheating you'll see the disabled message.
