DVD player acting weird! Help

Hi!

Recently my DVD player has been acting weird. Upon inserting a dvd, dvd player will open up but the image will have a lot of green lines all over it! If I open the same dvd in VLC, it shows up fine. Whats wrong? I have already tried to delete dvd player prefernces to no avail.

Ibook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have the same problem, jittery picture, big green lines and blocks all over the place. Audio is OK. Only happens with some DVDs but I don't see a pattern.

i'm on a powerbook g4 running tiger 10.4.6. just today my dvd player has been acting weird once i put in a dvd. it plays the dvd but the screen is super distorted with green squares all over the screen.
it's done this with three dvds already. however when i open the dvd in VLC, it plays fine.
any assistence is greatly appreciated!!
