Are there still issues with itunes 10.6.3?

Hi,

I'm still using itunes 10.5.3. I've been reluctant to upgrade since reading about problems with crashing etc. Has Apple resolved these issues or am I best to stick with the older version?

Thanks.

Put it this way, if you take this forum as a sample of iTunes issues with computers we have not seen anything here that specifically points to any issue with iTunes 10.6.3 on a computer running OS 10.5. I've not seen any posts where there was a specific issue that only arose on 10.5. I guess the closest I have seen for Leopard and iTunes issues are for people who have re-installed their 10.5 operating system and iTunes complained about Quicktime versions. Here's what I'm talking about:

= New version of Quicktime installed but application reports it needs to have that version installed =
Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications. One person had re-installed their 10.5 operating system. It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize. Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem. Do this manually, not with Software Update.

The above was easily fixed by updating Quicktime software manually.

Okay, I thought I had seen a few threads saying that itunes 10.6.3 was crashing. Leopard wasn't specifially mentioned, as I didn't mention it either in my initial question. I just wondered if people were still having issues with it or if it was okay to download and install. I don't really want to have to delete and try to reinstall an older version if it screws up. I use itunes daily for work and can't afford for it to break down on me. I don't know what this has to do with Quicktime.

As with any new software installation, you do a complete clone backup of your computer before installing. Try out the new software. If you are not happy, clone back the old setup and you're back to where you started in under an hour. If you're using iTunes for work, you really need to get a proper backup system going that lets you be up and running again quickly. That's what a professional would do.

There's always a few posts about iTunes crashing. Given that probably a few million computers have iTunes installed, seeing a handful of posts where people have issues (probably something specific to their particular computer setup) is not unusual. Each computer setup is unique and we have no idea how it will behave on yours.

Limnos, I am a professional musician not a professional computer technician and of course I already have a proper backup system. Restoring from a clone is a last resort and a pain in the *** to do so unneccessarily, that's why I posted the question instead, for a heads up. By the look of things, you're using an even more outdated computer, operating system, and itunes than myself, so perhaps not in a position to advise on my post. But thanks for the advice on how to be a professional.

You asked a very general question

Has Apple resolved these issues

The answer to that question will not come from a single user of the software since behavior will vary between users. Would you ask a single owner of a car if the manufacturer had resolved issues with that model car. or would you check with a resource that has reference to hundreds of owners and operators of that car? I might ask a single owner if I was asking how they liked the way the car handled, but I would go to Consumer Reports with reference to thousands of owners to see if there were general issues with a model. No, I don't run 10.6.3 but I bet I have read almost a thousand posts from people who have. I guess if you feel that way then I will leave it up to you to browse the past posts here over the past few months and see if you can figure out the answer to your question.

Good luck.
