I don't know if this will help but:

I had the same problem. Even after changing the date on my iPad I, I could connect ONCE and download successfully. That was it.

A couple of days later, I opened my computer and fired up iTunes. It downloaded a new version of iTunes, then asked my if I wanted to download updates to 45 iPad apps?

Uh, Uh, Sure! Can I do any worse than what I got!?

Took about an hour to do all downloads, even stuff I have long since deleted.

Download finished, I rebooted the computer.

I connected and synced the iPad. Shazam! End of all problems. iPad updates successfully without fooling around with the date or my credentials. It has grabbed subsequest updates and installed them with no hassles. I've been running a week without problems.

I've been getting the "cannot connect to iTunes" error for the last 24 hours. The date change trick is not working for me.

I'm using iOS 6.01 (latest) on iPad 3 with 3g. No config changes since it was last working. I can't update any apps and can't download new apps either. I can access the iTunes store and browse, but not download.

I had this issue several times with an iPad 1 with iOS 5.x. The date change trick worked back then.

Unbelievable Apple has done nothing to resolve this issue in all that time. Robust as a chocolate teapot.

I tried setting the date forward a month. Then two years ahead. A year ahead. Reboots. Not sure what else to try...

I got there eventually. It's now downloading from iTunes. The date change trick worked eventually. Very stubborn this time around.

For future ref..

- changed time/date from automatic to manual.

- changed date to one year ahead.

- dismissed the pesky warnings for email/backups/diary.

- tried to download an update from iTunes. Failed as expected, but interesting it failed with "cannot connect to iTunes" immediately rather than a minute delay as before.

- set the date back to present.

- Tried again to update an app. Worked.

- Set time/date back to auto. Still works.

Not sure if the step where I tried to download an update while the date was set in the future was the nudging point.

I spoke too soon. Just tried to buy an app and got the dreaded "Cannot connect to iTunes" error again.

Oddly, I then tried to download another app update. Worked ok.

Then picked a random freebie app to download. Got "Cannot connect to iTunes" error.

Seems to be affecting just new app purchases now.

As before, I can browse the App store without issues. So it's not a net connection issue.

Apple, this is ridiculous.

I have also been getting the same message (Cannot Connect To Itunes Store) for the past 14 hours only on my iPad 2. I have an iTouch and also have an iPad Mini. These are connecting without any problems. It is only the iPad 2 that will not connect for purchases and updates.. I tried all the fixes listed earlier in this thread. I am running operating system 6.0.1. If anyone does come up with a solution, I would be very grateful if you post it.

A day or two after my post app downloads started working again. The only thing which springs to mind is I'd since been on another wifi network, so as suggested by others it wouldn't surprise me if that nudges it into working again. Not sure why, and I've been back on the original wifi network without the issue reoccurring so far. Maybe down to wifi getting sluggish affecting timing or packet loss during time syncs.
