Itunes not detecting Ipad

I have used a lot of apple products from I pod touch, i pod classic, and the first gen i pad, all off of the same itunes. I recently bought a new Ipad 3 and am trying to sync with my computer. The Itunes on my computer is up to date but it not detecting my new ipad. I have also tried to load the icloud onto my pc so i could just transfer the information I wanted and the icloud will not download to my computer. Can I have some help please?
