In iTunes, click on your account and the top right, i.e. your log on. You will be asked for your password. Scroll down to Purchase History and click to open. Your rentals will be included there.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN, however, that you'll be able to locate your "paid for" rental anywhere, including on your computer. Apple needs to step up on this issue.

this is so frustrating, I'm having the same problem! It even tells me that I have a rental that's going to expire, but I can't find it! If itunes doesn't get it together I'll never rent from them again!
