Q: Is there an app which mimics iBooks Author?

I want the features of iBooks author (galleries, embedded videos, etc) but I do not want to publish on theiBookstore.  I want to create docs for a limited group -- these are business reports.  Is there another application with the same dynamic content capabilities that allows you to send an attachment which can be viewed on an iPad in more than a pdf format?

Thanks

I'm not aware of any such application. Note though that you can create a book with IBA and make it available free of charge without the iBookstore, and without violating the EULA. Just create your book and make it available for free download or email it to people.

The EULA obliges you to publish a book created with IBA through the iBookstore only if you charge for the book. If you give the book away for free, you can publish it any way you like without owing anything to Apple.

ok - so it's iba is iBooks Author.  Maybe I need a new apple support technician-- the guy i spoke with last night said the only method for sharing an iBooks doc is through the bookstore.  What you are telling me is that is not the case.  Am I right?

You got incorrect advice there. In IBA, go to File -> Export and export the book in .ibooks format. That's the book as it is stored on an iPad. Drop the .ibooks file into iTunes and sync the book with your iPad.

You can distributed the ibooks file any way you like. Email. Dropbox, web, whatever.

    Cheers,
