Q: Somewhere I read that the mid 2011 i7 3.4 GB would accept 32 gb of memory, anyone have any info on this?

Somewhere I read that it is possible to install (and benifit from) 32 gb of memory in a mid 2011 3.4-i7 iMac, can anyone  comment on this?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion, LR4-CS5

    Go to Crucial, they have a scanning that will determine which RAM and how much you can use. Good prices too.

    MacTracker and OWC say 32GB will work.

    There's a 32GB option in this page from OWC.

    Whether you'll benefit from it rather than 16GB depends on how you use your computer.

    If you do large scale video editing or audio production, then it may well be beneficial, but for most purposes 16GB should be more than enough.

    Thanks for the link, now I know it's available. If someone has used it I would be pleased to have some feedback.

    I am currently doing HDR Panos and with my D700  and develop 300+ meg files. when I sell my old BMW and buy the D800 I may end up with nearly 1 gig files!

    If you start out with 2 X 8GB Ram strips and then find your pageouts in Activity Monitor are running high and your RAM is being used 80%+ then get 2 more 8GB strips and max it out. You can still use the RAM you started with in the first 2 bays until you decide to upgrade.
