The key combination used by firefox to go to a home page is option-home. unfortunately there is no home key on a macbook pro which everyone here knows. So, how can I emulate a home key?

Really? In the MAC version of FF? My v14.0.1 lists no such thing on its History menu...
You can also try Command + Left Cusor.

tried command left but it didn't do it. the fn-option-left did the trick.

If anyone stumbles on this page trying to find Blender shortcut equivalents, fn left arrow works as Home key in Blender; fn right arrow works as End key in Blender.

fn + Left Arrow works for "home" in After Effects and fn + Right Arrow works for "End" as well in the timeline.
