Ever since a clean install of Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro 2009, the audio output defaults to Airplay

Ever since a clean install of Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro 2009, the audio output defaults to Airplay. As far as I know Airplay Mirroring is not supported on this device. I also did go into the Display settings & unchecked "Show mirroring optionsin the menu bar when available". I have also installed the latest updates & have rebooted multiple times. (I work in tech support myself). Any ideas?
