New Itunes Freeze's Upon Opening

Downloaded the new itunes in last couple of weeks. It now locks up each time I open it apparently trying to download items from the apple store or maybe the cloud. It just locks up upon opening every time. There is a prompt that says it is downloading an app, but I can't shut that down.

Any one else had this problem? Any ideas? Thanks
