What is "xpcd" Process?

hello all,

first time mac owner, I have searched the web for what this process is but I can't find any answers.

When I look at Activity monitor, i see a process called "xpcd" and sometimes the "user" will be my user account, or root, or coreaudiod.

My system is running fine and everything, I was just curious if anyone knew what this process does or where it came from.
