That's because all apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase or download the app. That is why you are seeing your old apple id for updating your apps. You will have to use that id and password to update.

No, when you go to update Apps, it will always require the password for the account that originially bought those specific Apps.

For instance if you bought Angry Birds a while back on your old account, and now that you are on your new account, it will still require your old password in order to update Angry Birds, because that was the account that bought it. Does that make sense?

Hi. I have the same "problem". But how do I update the old Apps, when the old mail-account no longer exist? And I do not have tha correct password. Do I have to delete all the old apps and purchase/download them with the new account?

Ok but what about if I let my friend plug his iPhone into my mac about 2 years ago, then I bought my iPhone last week and now I can't update anything as it comes up with his account. Please note that absolutely all of these were done on my account. I even have the friggin receipts :( please tell me it's possible as I'm now stuck with this phone for 2 years as my grace period just expired

You just make sure that iTunes on the computer is logged in with your name. On the phone, go to Store, check and see if it is your Apple ID that is logged in. If it is not, then tap on it, sign out and then sign back in with your ID.

ah yes ok I see it now. Just have to delete them all then reinstall while im logged in.

I think i must have not been signed into itunes when I synced my new phone with my mac, so as the last iphone plugged into it was my friends it stuck all his stuff on mine when i synced and somehow (??) decided to overwrite stuff we both had with his copy. Oof! hopefully this is gone now, im using old itunes and lepord still due to horrendous compatability issues with some old CERN software

You're welcome. Unless your friend synced to your computer and placed his apps on there, you should not have any of his apps there. Just remember the latest iOS requires iTunes 10.7 and OS X 10.6, I believe. You have to check on that since "I'm a PC"!
