How I got a free iPad

A few weeks ago i was heading to the libary when i found an iPad in a leather case sitting up aganced a seat. i picked it up and had a look at it. The owner had put on a passcode on it when i woke it up and i could see the wifi logo grayed out. i tried entering one radom number and it said that it was wrong. I had been looking at 4 blury photos from the lock screen when the iPad reset all of a sudden. when it booted back up it had a loading bar and in a short while the iPad had loaded the welcome screen. The one you see when you get a new iPad. it had done this as I was outside the libary.

I took it to the police stations lost proppty and the guy said that because the iPad had been reset by the owner and would be hard to return it. he said that I should just keep it because once an iPad has been erased unless the owner has the sireal number they can't clame it as theres. i asked if I could put up a sigh saying that i found an iPad and I was told me its not a smart idea. someone else who dsoen't own it would probbly get it off me.

would pressing the wrong passcode in one time cause an iPad to reset it self?

putting in the passcode once would not erase everything. what happen is who ever owned it before had the find my iphone app which works with ipads. the person as the option to do a remote wipe being going to the icloudwesite. so when you put in the wrong passcode just happen to b the same time they hit remote wipe

If you really wanted to be a good Samaritan you would take it to apple. Tell them the story. They can then find the owner in the records for the serial number in that case. Yes they do! Happen to my friends iPad touch. They can't help in tracking a serial number, but bringing in a found product they will.

I dont know why they did that many times before I have found a phone on the ground and only 2 times I could not call the owner and return it cant they post a massage or some thing so i could have gotton it back to them?

i have been given beer a few times for doing that.

Well it's a shot in the dark. I hear so many stories of apple not doing anything, but nothing with substance. All I know if my friend got his iPod touch back,because someone brought it in to apple saying they found it. They contacted him by email telling him they had it. Who knows...

I would definitely recommend taking it to the Apple Store. Just a few months ago, I found an iPhone that was locked with a passcode. I brought it to an Apple Store and told the Genius my story, he took it in the back, and came out literally a minute later with a persons name and phone number, and I was able to return it to them.

yes there would have been a option to send a text message to the ipad but some people worry so much about the data on the ipad the think about that first instead of getting it back.
