When working from home, I heavily use the Apple OS X application Screen Sharing from my Mac Mini to access my MacBook Pro. Yesterday, I applied the Mountain Lion update 10.8.1

I noticed the following issue:

  • Everything is fine for about 3 hours working with Screen Sharing on my remote MacBook Pro but also other apps on my Mac Mini.
  • My monitor once went to sleep mode (connected at HDMI port of Mac Mini)
  • After leaving the Screen Sharing window once more to access other apps on my Mac Mini, the cursor was lost for the desktop and all apps on the Mac Mini.
  • Moving the cursor in the area of Screen Sharing, I can see the remote cursor as expected.

The only way I figured out to get the cursor back on the Mac Mini is a reboot.

I figured a similar issue which might be connected to this one: Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I sometime lost the cursor after resuming from sleep mode. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4205461?tstart=0

Just in case: The MacBook Pro is still on OS X Lion and will not get updated until this nerving issue is covered. I don't expect that the remote computer's OS has influence on the cursor visibility on my 10.8.1 install
