Game Center still hangs after 10.8.1 update

Was really hoping this would be fixed with the 10.8.1 update. I log in, get the Terms & Conditions screen, tick the I Agree box, type in a nickname and click Continue. Get "Saving" interminably and never connect. Have tried EVERY supposed fix: launching Chess, editing the hosts file, repairing permissions, etc. Is there any other suggestion to fix this? It seems like such a basic function ...
