    What about a hard reset? To do this, first make sure the hold switch along the top of the device is in the Off position. Then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

     

    This may or may not work the first time around, so you should try it at least 2 -3 more times.
