Using keyboard viewer to locate symbols on my keyboard

I use dignbats (like Zapf Dingbats, or Bills, or Windings) a lot, and in the old days I used PopChar to locate every symbol/character on my keyboard. Keyboard Viewer is suppose to help me with that, I believe, but I'd like to be able to assign it to A CERTAIN FONT FAMILY, so to show me the location of every symbol/character on my keyboard. It doesn't do that. The "Font mapping" scroll-down at the bottom left doesn't have a list of fonts to chose from....

Thanks !

...I just wonder about this special "feature", and wanted to suggest a hint towards apple-system programmers...

(I just can't find where one should post such things).

MANY Pro's use rather specialised Keyboards-shortcuts with their softwares. They have done this for the last 10 years, or so. (If you look at the number of "specialised Keyboards" being sold in shops, supplying these Pro-Users... it's clear that the Pro-Apps of today are in need of powerful & clever handling by Keyboard).

In this sense, it is for me a (very unfortunate) additional exclamation-mark, that apple is deliberately steering away from the "true" Pro-Market... and is more steering towards "less is better" (in terms of money, at least).

Anyway, to make a long discussion short;

I wish that Apple-System programmers could think over their System-Extension "Apple Keyboard Viewer" a bit:

If this NIFTY little "app" in the menu is there already; why not make it for a much better use - for many?

- It should CERTAINLY not be seen as a System-Vital part, but more as an extra, and thus, also allow this extra to be used by 3rd parties. (System-Vital "apps" shouldn't be used/modified by 3rd parties).

I would VERY much like to see:

1. Font-View again! (WYSIWYG)

2. Selectable Keyboard layout. (Extended, Macbook... etc).

3. possibility to control the viewer to show a certain layout - with "sticky keys".

4. Return to use the "languages" as files/documents - so that 3rd parties can create a

visual "map" of their special keyboard-layouts. (with possible added graphics).

It would be SO simple to make this little app EXTREMELY good!

I would be VERY happy to see this happen...

Cheers
