trying to create a slideshow with voiceover on imovie11

Ok, so here's my situation. I am working with my students to let them created a slideshow of images about a story they read, and record a voiceover that narrates the entire slideshow.

The problem I am having is, imovie is showing each image as it's own clip, and so when they record the voiceover, it only records to the end of that clip, not the entire slideshow.

What are my options to fix this? Here are some things I considered but couldn't find if they were workable.

Combine all the individual images into a single clip. Is that something I can do in imovie? Is so, how would I do that and keep transitions between images?

Perhaps there is an option to select multiple clips before recording the voiceover, but I didn't see how.

Create their slideshow, transitions and all in power point or keynote and them add that file to imovie, then record the voiceover?

If anyone knows if and how any of these would work, please let me know, and if you have a simplier solution, that would be great as well. Thanks!

Hi

I don't really know - BUT I have a working - Work around

This is the way one use when ever complex sequences are needed.

Take the SlideShow as an example

• In this Project (of all slides edited and transitions etc all's done)

• EXPORT out as full Quality QuickTime .mov

• Import this QT.mov to Event's

• Create a new Project

• Add the new QT.mov in Event's

Now it is just one long sequence and You can now add a Voiceover that takes the full movie.

(Same Export/Import action are used when multiple texts or other complex pictures are needed)

Hi Bengt,

I fully understood what you had explained, but then again I guess we are experienced users! For any user new to iMovie it can be difficult to follow some of these processes, no matter how well they are described. So don't feel too concerned - you always provide good advice that can be followed readily. CurtPopejoy may be new to all this and may not be familiar with the various workarounds that we sometimes use. Some things are hard to explain at the best of times!

Yes 100% with You and eagerly trying to get simple enough but not losing the result.

Still Billy Graham's strategy to explain at Professor level to be understood by a 12-year old is a goal to reach for.

My uncle (prof. Stig Hagstrom) was such a person - really one of the very few that was responsible for the GUI and all icons on Your DeskTop (Xerox-Parc and SmallTalk). It's a privilege to known such a person.

But I learn. Day by Day 😉

Bengt,

Here's what happended. You answered the OP's first question:

Combine all the individual images into a single clip. Is that something I can do in imovie? Is so, how would I do that and keep transitions between images?

I answered the OP's second question:

Perhaps there is an option to select multiple clips before recording the voiceover, but I didn't see how.

However, AppleMan provided what really is the best solution for what the OP is trying to do.

This kind of thing happens all the time in the ASC and I think it's a useful process for not just finding solutions, but finding the best solutions!

😉
