Bizarre behavior - Apple Cinema Display and G4 Cube
This morning my cube (450 Mhz) would not turn on. I unplugged everything and replugged. I found that connecting the display (ADC) turned the cube on! But, it went to Open Firmware and would not boot from there. The power button on Cube was still not working. Then I found I could turn on the Cube with display disconnected, heard all the usual whirring etc., but couldn't see the screen of course. Then if I turned off the Cube (5 second touch on button) I could then re-connect the display, turn on Cube and normality was restored...until after 10 mins everything turned off suddenly. Did the start up (unconnected) again, shut down, started up (connected) - normality. Ran hardware test, everything ok. Then, boom, everything turned off again (the first time this happened I was typing, the second time I wasn't touching the computer).
Then...the disconnected/connected technique wouldn't work. With the display connected I would get nothing. With cube off, disconnecting the display turned on the cube in the normal fashion! As soon as I connect it the cube turns off!
Now the ADC carries power, I know. So what's going on here - loose connection? short? I took a look inside, no obvious problems. Also installed a new internal battery - didn't help.
