the power charger, when attached, gives my macbook a power source, but it says (not charging)and theres no light on(green/orange)

My laptop had water poured on it in my bookbag.we did the rice trick. Now it seems i only have a small spot on my screen. but the power charger, when attached, gives my macbook a power source, but it says (not charging)and theres no light on(green/orange). should i buy a new charger? should i be doing something further to help with the damage? can i service my charger cord to save money?? thanks! -kayleigh
