Finder Preview - Postscript > Preview Icon

In KDE 3.4.2 on Suse Linux 10, I get automatic previews of postscript image files (.eps) without any problems as Konqueror creates icons, larger hover-mouse-instant-preview images together with file specs, and fully integrated file browser previews.

Nothing like that in Finder, or Pathfinder.

Does anyone know of a trick how to activate .eps / .ps - preview in OS X Finder? Is this a coming-up feature in OS X 10.4.6 or maybe 10.5?

What I was trying to say was that Postscript files, even if they are in pristine code quality that does perfectly well under Linux, or on Postscript printers, in Ghostview, or, say, in the Mac OS X Preview application after you double click them and Preview then takes them into PDF format... these PS files don't show up in OS X Finder even if "preview" is checked.

It seems to be simply not a feature. Not understandable because it's an absolute no-brainer in KDE to get these previews.

So I was wondering whether there was a specific way to specifically activate the absent Postscript icon preview function. Or, maybe a plug-in?

On my computer, these EPS files are listed as documents to the "Preview.app" application.

These files are created using IDL, which can write computed output directly into EPS files (very good print output; very fast file generation). They contain one very rough thumbnail preview picture, although I'm not entirely sure what format options of enclosed OS X Finder would recognize. That little preview bitmap is recognized and used by Open Office 2 for on-screen display, while the postscript is sent to the printer.

Under Linux, Konqueror is not relying on the very small bitmap preview image; Konqueror displays a re-rasterized postscript, in a very good quality, as icon, as pop-up-preview when hovering the cursor of the file, and as large window preview when clicked. OS X Finder lets me preview .jpg or .gif, but not to these .eps files.

Here is an example:

Thank you very much.

I can't see vector based editable eps files in the preview column in column view in OS 10.4.5. These files are save from Adobe Illustrator with a document thumbnail. I swear I could preview these files in Panther. I think he is speaking of seeing the preview of the file in the finder without having to launch another application. I am not seeing editable eps files in this fashion either.
