Did you set up an iTunes account without a credit - the way that you are supposed to do it - or did you set up an Apple ID and just not enter credit card details?

If you did not set the ID properly and if you followed the traditional route of setting up an ID, you will have to enter a credit card. You may be able to remove it after you enter the details and then start downloading free apps, but there is a very specific way to set up an iTunes account without a credit card.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.

Since you already have an Apple ID that you have used to open your iTunes account, if you do have a None option in the method of payment area of your account information when viewed either on the Mac or the iPhone, you will need to supply either a bank card; debit ior credit or a small iTunes gift card.
