colorsync calibrate won't save profile

In the past, I've used the Colorsync utility to calibrate my monitor on my MacBook Pro. I haven't done it in a while and I've tried several times recently to do it again. However, after going through the steps and being asked to name the new profile, I get an error message that says:

An error occured.

The new calibrated display profile could not be created or set to be the current profile for this display.

Any clue as to what the problem could be and how to fix this?

I've considered using a profession color calibration device but haven't done so yet, but it would be nice to have the built in program actually work.
