Please can you help me further. I've tried all this, but it's still not working. Which two places? I've entered the password on the screen 'Outgoing Mail Server' and checked password under Authentication.I will double check that the password I have is correct. I was sending mail to myself as a means of sharing data with my Microsoft laptop - crazy but haven't found a better way. Could this be marking it as spam?. Hope you can help! Many thanks

I'm having the same problem. We upgraded to the iPhone 5 and that is when the problelm started. Never had this problem with my 3GS.

I have the password set in both places. I DO NOT have 2 different passwords for the outgoing and incoming server. The server authenticated the password but its still not working.

Its also telling me now that one of the other passwords for another account is wrong when it is correct. The server on that account also authenticated it as correct.

I have no issues with either account with the iPad or my iMac, only with the iPhone 5.

Go to Settings

Mail Contacts Calendars

Click on the Account from which your trying to send mail

Click on the ACCOUNT

Scroll Down to the Out Going Mail Server and Click on it

Click on Primary Server at the top

Then Make sure you enter all the info needed (I had this problem because I didnt have the user name and password entered)

Done!

I have the iPhone 5 and I'm having the same problem with my gmail, all my information is entered correctly. Outgoing password is entered as well as my username. I'm able to receive email but anytime I send it says the recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying - I've never seen this message before and I'm really puzzled at this point, nothing I try is working. Nothing looks out of the ordinary in my settings. Please someone help!

Astoriagirl, I think the question about more than one SMTP server may be the key. I have iPhone 5 and couldn't send mail either from my Primary which is Hotmail/Live.com. I turned on my Gmail for outgoing and now it works! It says it will try your secondary servers if the Primary does not work. I think it may have to do with the ISP your phone is using at the time you are trying to send. My experience with my MacBook is that if I am away from home at a coffee shop or something, my Hotmail account does not let me send mail, so I made another account that has my hotmail as return address, but using my Gmail account to send mail. I think some ISPs don't

like Hotmail.

Thanks! You solved my problem.

Just for the record as it may help someone: I was happily sending emails from my iPhone UNTIL I bought a MacBook Air (I have been a Windows person all my life!). It was when I was setting up Mail on the Mac that the SMTP user name and password on the iPhone seem to have got erased after I did a sync with iTunes. I have no idea why this happened but...
