I am starting a new podcast but when I submit the link to Apple through iTunes I get the error 11111.

The feed is OK in general, and the server does accept byte-range requests which is a requirement by Apple, but all the URLs are https (this seems to be what is causing FeedValidator to see the URLs as not valid) and though it works OK in the iTunes application I don't know whether this is an issue with the Store. If you can find a way of using http:// that would be preferable.

Also: your mp3 file has a space in the filename. The feed is handing this correctly by substituting the code %20, but it's bad practice (spaces are not allowed in a URL) and I would recommend changing it - the usual method is to substitute an underscore.

However that is unlikely to be the cause of the problem, which is either the https issue or a problem at the Store end. It may sort itself out if you wait a day or so: if not you could try emailing them at podcasts 'at' apple.com but don't be surprised if you get a form answer telling you how to submit a podcast.

Hi have been looking at dropbox do you think that this answer below would work??

Force a file or folder to download

Using the new direct link above, you can further modify the URL to force the browser to download the file, rather than handle it natively. To force a file download, append a direct link with

?dl=1
. For example:

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/xttkmuvu7hh72vu/MyFile.pdf

(Note that the URL begins with dl.dropbox.com, as instructed in the section above.)

Becomes:

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/xttkmuvu7hh72vu/MyFile.pdf?dl=1

Enter the new URL in the address field of your browser and it should automatically download, instead of open, the file.

Public folder links

Accounts created before July 31st, 2012 are pre-populated with a Public folder. All the functionality of Public folders (and more) is available from anywhere in your Dropbox by creating a Dropbox link.

The primary difference between Dropbox links and Public links are that unmodified Public links will render in your browser by default rather than open in a preview window on the Dropbox website. If you would rather force the Public link to directly download rather than render in the browser, add

?dl=1
to the end of the URL, as described above.

You do not want the file forced to download. Your media files must be directly linked to so that they play in a browser, not download, and as I say I suspect that though the iTunes application will handle https the Store may have problems with it, though I don't know for certain. (https is a secure protocol and requires the requesting application to have a certificate.)

thank you for that have just found another piece of info and taking off the s would seem the way to go. http://www.jasonrhode.com/howtopodcast If you have time to view this go to the messages there are only 6 and the 5th one says take off the s. Now what I dont know is when I put info into feeder I remove the s there as well. Have just tried it and get the same error code 11111. But of course I still dont know if its a itunes problem
