Aperture 2.x loupe doesn't work w/new Mountain Lion--help?
I've upgraded to Mountain Lion, but still using older (Aperture 2.1.4)...loupe isn't working since Mountain Lion update. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the new Apple. If you don't update to the newest version (still loaded with bugs and glitches of their own) then Apple has no use for you. Shame on you for not spending the $80.00 to upgrade to Aperture 3.
Brian,
there are no longer many Aperture 2 users posting here, and we cannot test Aperture 2 problems on Aperture 3 systems. Check out the Trouble shooting Basics:
Aperture 2: Troubleshooting Basics
After upgrading the system it is usually a good idea to repair the library and to remove user defined preferences.

Léonie
Ive got this problem too, same version and running Mountain Lion. The loupe tool is greyed out and wont zoom in. I find it ridiculous I will have to upgrade this software, I dont need anything more powerful or feature packed than this. It should last years.

It did last years -- and it will last forever -- on the Operating System it was written for. A significant part of determining the value (and cost) of upgrading your OS is determining which apps will no longer run at all, which ones partially, which will run with an upgrade, and how much those upgrades cost. This has been true since the first PC OS.
Your complaint is really about Mountain Lion.
By that virtue all software should be updated nearly annually. Personally i think that is a scenario which would hinder all computer sales.
Not at all. I still use a 1999 laptop to run a Windows program on a daily basis.
The point is that the only obligation the software companies have to you is that their software runs the way they say it does the day you buy it. Your software still does. Any other assumption about their obligation to you is going to leave you disappointed.
If you chose to not bear the cost of upgrading (OS or individual apps), don't upgrade.
Being that the OS and the APP are made by the same company, it shouldn't be such a hassle. I think I'll be better off using a different app altogether that will be updated or patched for a new OS. I still use CS3 and adobe still offers patches for their stuff.
Not exactly made of money here. typically when I'm left high and dry, I'd go somewhere else, plain and simple. I also been endorsing Aperture since I've been using it when I contributed to a couple of books. So, Apple looses out too for the lack of fixing something that could be a simple patch, rather than hitting me for a full price upgrade.
Was my bad being a loyal customer.

I agree Del. it's not as if the entire thing has stopped working. They've clearly just thrown a spanner into the works and messed up one tiny thing from working to force the upgrade. Personally apple can get stuff in this instance. Been doing less and less photography anyway and have other things to spend my money on at the moment.
Disappointed customer.
I've had the same problem in Aperture 2, but on Lion 10.7.5. I can usually make it work by toggling to the Master Image. It'll show the loupe correctly for Master Image, and I can toggle back to my edited version and it continues working. That's the only workaround I know, but it usually seems to work. Hope that helps.
I've had the same problem: Aperture 2 loupe works fine in Lion on my MacBook, but not in Mountain Lion on my brand new MacBook Air. And yes software will get broken by new OS's from time to time, but it should be possible to find this out before buying the new OS, rather than afterwards; otherwise how do we make an informed choice?
Have this same problem (Ap.2 loupe not working after upgrade to ML). Some combination of opening the loupe /pressing "M" always fixes it (for all images/folders that session). Sometimes it takes a few attempts. Problem reoccurs every time Aperture is opened.
I agree that Apple should fix this.
That didn't work for me, so I've decided that pressing Z (which toggles a view at 100%) is the best workaround for me. Ho hum.
It has been fixed. It works fine in Aperture 3.x.
Look, Aperture 2.x was replaced by Aperture 3 almost THREE YEARS AGO. Aperture 2 is no longer supported. That means you won't get bug fixes.
Why would anyone buy it today then it its 3 years old?
Pointless

Aperture 3.4.3 is 1 moth old!
And Aperture 3.3 is very different from Aperture 3.0 - full integration with Mac OS X 10.8 - isn't that what you are looking for?
